  1. Video post

Alright everybody. Check out my tunes. Five whole tunes. I thought em up, recorded em, thought about them, played them at shows and with friends, re-recorded them, and now here they are for you to Finally hear, four or five months in the making. These magnificent songs play on Headphones, Home Speakers, Car Speakers, Boom Boxes, Ipod Soufflés and the like. Thanks to Kitty Colvin For the photo taking, thanks to Jenny Contreras Grant Sabin and Alex Koshak and for listening to my demo’s and offering me great feedback

2013 has been one of the most atrocious years I have ever seen go down. Lets re-cap a little.

Solomon Islands earthquake and tsunami (February)

    Sichuan, China, earthquake (April)

    Southern Africa drought(May-present)

    Uttarakhand, India, floods (June)

    Colorado, U.S., floods (September)

    Southern Asia floods (October)

    West Africa drought (ongoing)

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster (福島第一原子力発電所事故 Fukushima Daiichi) was a catastrophic failure at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant on 11 March 2011. The failure occurred when the plant was hit by the tsunami triggered by the Tōhoku earthquake[6] The plant began releasing substantial amounts of radioactive materials beginning on 12 March.[7] It became the largest nuclear incident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster and the second (with Chernobyl) to measure Level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale,[8] releasing an estimated 10-30% of the earlier incident’s radiation.

From October 1 through 16, 2013, the United States federal government entered a shutdown and curtailed most routine operations after Congress failed to enact legislation appropriating funds for fiscal year 2014, or a continuing resolution for the interim authorization of appropriations for fiscal year 2014

Oh and also Miley Cyrus rubbed her crotch all over a middle aged man that got famous for blowing smoke into naked girls faces.

So here we all are, staring at a broken world that no one wants to admit is broken because it’s too hard of a concept to grasp. So I’m saying, I’m done with you Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Goverment Officials, Shampoo Commercials, America’s Next Top Whatever. I make music because God sent me to make music. So you can have your naked women and your Versace uniforms because I have the truth.

The truth is that we know how to fix everything listed above.

WE AS A COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS CAN MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE RIGHT NOW. Not in the future, not in the sixties, but right NOW. So here’s one for tomorrow, in hopes that tomorrow shall be a better day.

I feel something inside of thee

    having epiphany’s quietly, secretly

i walk down to the railroad

holding a blind fold to tie myself up with me

yes my mustache is long enough

yes my rope knots are strong enough

no I won’t do the job wrong enough

to hold up the iron horse

    but omitting outside of me

pulled i back into thee having epiphany’s

we drive down to the station

explained situation, don’t hang yourself up with me

yes my mustache is long enough

yes my rope knots are strong enough

Yes I won’t do the job wrong enough

to hold up the iron horse

let the sun set on us, our tombstones have not slept

if today ran away, tomorrow never wept

accounting for the promises tomorrow never kept

I feel something inside of thee

    having epiphany’s quietly, secretly

    but omitting outside of me

pulled i back into thee having epiphany’s

DANIEL JAMES EATON/CHARIOTEERKINGS OF SPACE SPLIT I
Stumbled on a new tape label while wandering around Colorado Springs a week or two ago. Daniel James Eaton and Charioteer were playing a sidewalk set that drew me away from whatever vague plans I already had with sounds of carefully considered, expertly crafted pop. These guys are part of a cassette label/collective in the Springs called Kings of Space. And I thought I was the only tape weirdo in this town!
Daniel James Eaton has the healthy work ethic of a truly dedicated artist; his Bandcamp reveals that 2011 was a “year of songs” which produced 15 volumes. His side of this split is full of dreamy fragments, airy delay-ridden vocals and carnival barks. Solid song construction is ossified beneath layers of sound and texture, flowing from zone to zone with enough variety to keep your ear pinned to it.
The Charioteer side features a similar lo-fi delay-buried-vocal aesthetic, but is highlighted by intricate guitar picking and nuanced songwriting. Full of deep emotion and perfectly-chosen exotic chords. You can tell when someone has listened to “a lot” of songs and knows all the little tricks. Charioteer has studied well, and he’s got an excellent, expressive set of pipes to boot. His Bandcamp is here.
The tapes are homedubbed and handcrafted, each one wrapped up with twine and decorated with stickers. I’d tell you where to order this if I could. Their Facebook is here.
I did end up with an extra copy of this, drop me a line if you’d like one.

    Briffaut

There are no further plans for live performance by Briffaut as a band. Although an album representing our time as a band will be released this fall. It will be our first official release under the Kings of Space Collective. The Briffaut album will consist of two segments. A hunk of songs that were recorded with our good friend Ryan Spradlin at ALLNEONLIKE studios and a hunk of songs that we recorded ourselves on a 1963 reel to reel tape recorder that Ryan let us borrow. Ryan’s mixing it all for us and we are sending the maud portion off to be pressed onto  10” vinyl. While the reel to reel portion is being bounced onto cassette tapes. They will be sold together as one purchase. It is a very limited pressing. Here is the list of songs for the album :

    image

    Vinyl

    side a :

    1. last chance, daylite

    2. wanderers

    3. mother california

    4. wood and stoney oceans

    side b :

    1. hot air balloon

    2. lovely lonely

    3. great big thing in the sky

    Cassette Tape

    side a :

    1. maud

    2. monet nudenite

    3. dreamer

    4. beast of season

    side b :

    1. future telling

    2. soft white

    3. fly little birdies, fly

So the band is kind of sealed in a way within these songs. Rest assured, The three of us are still great friends and we will continue to make ridiculous amounts of music together. I suppose all I can say is that we are all still finding our ways both in life and in music and it surely is an ever changing process. The Briffaut album will be available soon, it is admittedly taking longer than expected to put the finishing touches on the album. I do not mind myself, for to me this album started more than a year ago, when i started the song writing process for it. The songs from “maud” are all from writing a song everyday for a year, while the songs from “harold” are from right after that, when the idea of taking a few days to write a song became mind blowing to me. Thankyou so much for waiting patiently, especially you kickstarter friends who pledged to make the album happen.
